Italy: A VIROFORUM Session to Strengthen the Fight Against HIV
The cities of Milan and Modena, Italy, recently hosted a session of VIROFORUM, a major event dedicated to the fight against HIV. Coordinated by Professor Carlo-Federico PERNO, this meeting brought together experts to discuss the interpretation of clinical resistance in collaboration with the Italian medical team.

Emphasis was placed on the importance of personalized, community-based care for people living with HIV (PLHIV). This approach allows for linking virological data with metabolic parameters, thereby facilitating a more targeted and effective selection of antiretroviral treatments.

Participants also emphasized the need for systematic screening for hepatitis B and C (HBV/HCV), particularly among migrant populations, especially those from Africa, who account for the majority of treated cases.

The resistance monitoring strategy implemented has led to a significant improvement in virological response in nearly all patients. This session provided valuable insights for strengthening prevention efforts, better managing treatment resistance, and addressing metabolic complications.

The discussions among experts were particularly fruitful, fostering the exchange of knowledge and best practices.

Dr. Joseph FOKAM, Permanent Secretary of the CNLS, represented Cameroon at this international forum.
