The Global Fund expresses its gratitude to the Minister of Public Health, Chair of the National AIDS Control Committee, for his dynamic leadership and the appointment of the Permanent Secretary
At a high-level meeting on March 14, 2025, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria expressed its appreciation to Cameroon’s Minister of Public Health for the strategic changes implemented in 2024 within the National AIDS Control Committee (NACC), notably the appointment of Dr. Joseph Fokam as Permanent Secretary. The Global Fund team in Geneva commended his commitment, coordination efforts, and collaborative spirit, which they consider essential to the success of the national HIV response program.
During this first year, the Permanent Secretary has demonstrated remarkable commitment, effective leadership, and notable innovations in achieving the objectives of the national HIV response. Addressing him during this meeting, the Minister of Public Health emphasized his proactive approach and leadership qualities:
“I would like to convey the Global Fund’s appreciation for the actions you have taken since assuming your position. During my meeting with the team in Geneva, they expressed their satisfaction with your dynamic approach. This is excellent work. I congratulate you and thank your colleagues for their coordination efforts. Keep up the good work!”
Since his appointment as head of the NACC in March 2024, Dr. Joseph Fokam has led the institution to several accolades, including an award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for effectively coordinating the national HIV response in Cameroon, as well as an award for advances in HIV diagnosis through the three-test algorithm. He was also named the second-best Program Manager for the year 2024 under the auspices of the Ministry of Public Health. His leadership has been recognized on several occasions, particularly for his ability to build strong teams and maintain a motivating and harmonious work environment.
The Permanent Secretary expressed his gratitude:
“This recognition is not only a source of motivation but also a reminder of our duty to always do better. The entire NACC team sincerely thanks the Minister of Public Health and the Global Fund for this vote of confidence and this encouragement to continue our efforts in coordinating the national response to HIV.”
Often described as a “circle within a circle,” Dr. Joseph Fokam embodies the kind of leadership perfectly suited to the demands of the position. His tenure at the helm of the NACC holds promise for new advances and innovations, with the ultimate goal of ending AIDS in Cameroon by 2030.
