Cameroon is developing a national plan to accelerate HIV testing among children.
A National Plan to Scale Up Viral Load Testing and Early HIV Diagnosis in Children will soon be available in Cameroon. This was the main announcement from the strategic workshop held April 27–30, 2026, in Ébolowa, coordinated by the Coordinator of the Grant Coordination Unit (UCS).
Over the course of four days, experts gathered in Ébolowa worked to define national priorities for removing barriers to testing. They also developed the strategic framework that will enable the rollout of viral load testing and early diagnosis across all 10 regions of the country. Concrete actions were identified to ensure that every child exposed to HIV—including those in the most remote areas—can receive testing and appropriate follow-up care.
Without early diagnosis and regular viral load monitoring, children living with HIV have very little chance of survival. This new national plan therefore aims to significantly reduce HIV-related child mortality and accelerate the response to achieve the goal of eliminating AIDS in Cameroon by 2030.
