As part of the Global Fund team’s mission to Cameroon

As part of the Global Fund team’s mission to Cameroon, a joint field visit took place this Wednesday, May 13, 2026. The activity brought together two senior technical advisors from the institution: Dr. Beatriz Thomé, Senior HIV Advisor, and Dr. Grania Brigden, Senior TB Advisor, along with representatives from NACC, NPFM, and the Centre Regional Delegation of Public Health.
The day began with a meeting with NACC Permanent Secretary, Dr. Joseph Fokam. Discussions centered on strengthening service integration through two main areas:
1. Triple elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B: Talks highlighted the importance of the “one-stop shop” model in hospitals and the success of outreach interventions, such as the community-based Maternal Outreach (M Reach) initiative.
2. HIV-TB co-infection: Stakeholders discussed program convergence and optimizing tuberculosis diagnosis through innovative technological tools, ensuring a more coordinated and efficient response.
To observe how these strategies translate on the ground, the two experts visited the Mother and Child Center of the Chantal Biya Foundation and the Odza District Hospital.
These two facilities were deliberately chosen because each provides integrated care covering both focus areas of the mission. This setup allowed the experts to conduct coordinated visits and see how services work together at each site.
During the visits, frontline medical teams presented significant progress made and shared with the delegation the operational challenges they face daily in maintaining this level of performance.
