Yesterday, February 20, 2025, marked a significant milestone in Cameroon’s fight against HIV/AIDS, particularly among children and adolescents in the Northwest Region, as the Center of Excellence for HIV Care and Treatment was officially certified at the Bamenda Regional Hospital.

This achievement is part of a broader initiative launched by the Cameroonian government, in collaboration with its partners, to establish centers of excellence for children and adolescents in the country’s ten regions. The goal is to provide high-quality care and treatment to young people living with HIV, in line with UNAIDS’ 95-95-95 targets for 2025.

The certification process included a comprehensive two-week training session for 18 staff members in August 2024, followed by a three-month mentoring process. Eleven staff members met the certification criteria and were recognized at the ceremony.

This certification process was organized by the CNLS/GTR and the CBCHB with technical and financial support from the CDC/PEPFAR.

The certification ceremony was presided over by the Regional Public Health Delegate (RDPH), in the presence of representatives from various health institutions.

This certification represents a crucial step in strengthening HIV care and treatment services for children and adolescents in the Northwest region. The mentors will also help expand the pool of trainers and mentors, supporting capacity-building among health care professionals.
