A courtesy meeting between the Permanent Secretary of the NACC and the new WHO representative
A courtesy meeting between the Permanent Secretary of the National AIDS Control Committee and the new representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Bagayoko Magaran Monzon, provided an opportunity to discuss national priorities in the fight against the disease.
Discussions focused on several key points, including the transition to a three-test algorithm to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of screening in all health facilities across the country’s ten regions. It should be noted that WHO supports this approach in Cameroon to ensure treatment effectiveness. The organization also supports the monitoring of resistance to Dolutegravir, a drug essential for HIV treatment and indispensable for ensuring treatment effectiveness.
The prevention and management of advanced-stage diseases constitute another major focus of collaboration between Cameroon and WHO. This cooperation also extends to the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) and pediatric HIV care. The WHO has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Cameroon in its fight against HIV/AIDS, particularly in mobilizing grants from the Global Fund and PEPFAR to address resource shortages.
Cameroon also receives support from the WHO in its pursuit of Universal Health Coverage, which is essential for ensuring sustained access to health services, including the response to AIDS. This future collaboration aims to strengthen the national response to HIV/AIDS and improve the health of vulnerable populations, in line with Cameroon’s vision of ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
