A comprehensive training program on the comprehensive management of HIV...
A comprehensive training program on comprehensive HIV care is currently underway in the Northwest Region of Cameroon. It aims to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage HIV cases. Organized by the CBCHB and funded by CDC-PEPFAR, this training is being held under the auspices of the Regional Public Health Delegate.
It covers essential topics such as HIV epidemiology, modes of transmission and prevention strategies, screening, antiretroviral treatment, and prevention of mother-to-child transmission.
The training also emphasizes specialized care for children living with HIV, cohort follow-up, and best practices for healthcare professionals. By strengthening knowledge and skills in HIV care, this program aims to improve patient outcomes, reduce HIV-related morbidity and mortality, and strengthen health systems.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to combat HIV in Cameroon, where an estimated 480,232 people were living with the virus in 2022. The country has made significant progress in reducing new infections and improving access to treatment, with a 50% decline in HIV prevalence among people aged 15 to 64 over the past 14 years.
